Redwood Sided Home

This home at been previously treated with a tung-oil based product some years prior. The wood itself was in great condition, but mildew and tannin leaching had turned the surface dark and blotchy. The homeowners were seeking to restore the home back to its original, natural wood look.

The process involved removing the surface mildew using hot water pressure washing and brightening agents. The siding was restored to like-new condition and then stained using a Boodge Company. The project is guaranteed for five years.(see guarantee)

Boulder Log Home Restoration

This beautiful full log home sits on top of a ridge overlooking the front -range in Boulder, Co.  This log home was nicely constructed and relatively new. The original film-forming stain product had started to fail. The resulting water infiltration was leading to mildew growth on some surfaces. The cedar shake roof had never been treated, but was constructed using better-grade shakes. The shakes were drying out rapidly and we were concerned about curling and checking.

We consulted with the homeowner and elected to strip the existing film finish on the log surfaces instead of recoating with the same product. This allowed us start fresh with a different product that we could stand behind with a five- year guarantee. Other benefits included better resistance to mildew growth, improved aesthetics and ease of reapplication.

We also pressure washed the shake roof to removing the dead surface layer. After thoroughly drying applied a deep moisture replenishing oil to the shakes.

The pictures to the right were actually taken five years after we refinished with the new product.  Seven and half year later the logs and shakes were due to be refinished.

Carson Nature Center Exterior Restoration

The Carson Nature Center was originally located a few miles away from where it currently sits. The home was built by the Carson family in the 1950’s and donated to the City of Littleton in 1982.  The city converted into a nature center where students and visitors can come to learn about ecosystems along the Platte River Basin. The second level is used as offices for the park service.

The exterior was previously treated with linseed oil and various other stain products. The result over time was severe mildew growth on the surface and a blotchy dark appearance. The Swedish- Cope style logs were still structurally sound and no log replacement was necessary. The logs had never been chinked resulting in significant air infiltration. Larger checks had opened up on some logs and water infiltration was a concern.

The city elected to do a full exterior restoration which involved the removal of existing finishes, chinking/caulking log joints and checks and applying a natural looking stain product that would be easier to maintain in the future.
